The May Update
We have the pleasure this month of announcing that the project has been funded and will most likely begin in October 2009; running at least until June 2010 (or until funding runs out).
We've been working especially hard on getting a supply list put together, sourcing out every single piece of equipment and buying some on a trial basis to make sure that everything is going to work in the jungle. Here are some additional project updates we'd like to highlight in particular:
Field Asistants We have a full team now, 6 people in total, arriving at various points during the field season. Look out for updates on the team under the About Us tab.
Grants We've been lucky this time around in getting significant funding for this project. We'd like to officially thannk the following organisations for their support through grants-in-aid of research: The Animal Behaviour Society, the American Society of Mammalogists, the Lambda Alpha National Collegiate Honours Society for Anthropology, the International Primatological Society, IDEA WILD, and Washington University's Anthropology Department.
Travel We will be in India over the months of June and July, with slightly irregular email access. If you have a query, send it to

, and don't despair, well get to you eventually! Photographs of primate-related adventures will be up by and by.
Website updates Keep an eye out for the following:
- If you are registered with us, updates on travel and pricing will be under the relevant sections of the website
- If you are deciding whether to visit us, either in an official or supportive capacity definitely get registered here, and inform us of your tentative travel dates here, so that we can make arrangements for your stay, as well as link you to other visitors for a more enjoyable travel exprience.
- Our team is complete: watch out for information on our 4 new members shortly
Acknowledgements There are many people who have helped us get this project off the ground, and now that we have a forseeable start date in October, I think it is time we thanked them. So here's a shout out to some, but not all, the people who have made PrimatesPeru a reality: Tab Rasmussen (advisor extraodinaire!), Jennifer Rehg (callitrichid expert), Leila Porter and Sandra Suarez (for in your worthy footsteps we follow), Dr. Pamela Clary, D.V.M. (veterinarian and friend), the Watsa and Erkenswick clans, Robert Erkenswick (engineer and trap/"gitmo" specialist), Elaine Beffa (financial whiz), Renata Leite-Pitman (friend and Amazonian felid expert), Rocio Martínez (permit genius!) and Aaron Erkenswick (THE web-dev guy).
