Helping hands
Culture Dish, a blog recently accepted by Scienceblogs, has an interesting series of articles on the use of non-canine animals as service animals. The latest in this saga of reforms and discussion is the Department of Justice's recent decision to label only dogs as 'service animals'. As such, people with other creatures as helping hands stand to lose all rights to bringing their animals with them into restaurants, public transport, etc.
For a simian take on the matter, see the author Rebecca Skloot's review of the history of primates in the 'service industry', so to speak.
Finally, a great video clip of the world's only Monkey College, situated in Boston. It's called Helping Hands and is catered towards quadriplegics to allow them to live a fuller life.
